Oil and Encaustic Paintings.jpg

It’s all in the Layers…

My photo encaustic paintings begin with a fine art print of one of my images mounted to a cradled board. Layers of encaustic medium are fused over the top of the image to form a sculptural surface that cures over time and reflects light in such a beautiful way. I will often paint with oils under the wax as I work, adding color, texture and depth.

Oil and Cold Wax Medium

I love all kinds of wax, hot or cold! many of my landscape oil paintings actually begin with molten wax but finish with layers of cold wax and oil. this process of adding and subtracting melds with my view through a camera lens…what to include within the frame is just as important as the elements that are removed.
